Individualized and small group reading focuses on multisensory instruction in decoding, vocabulary, comprehension strategies, fluency and writing. Strategies for study and organizational skills are emphasized for older students. Students are grouped together according to age, strengths, and needs.
Students learn through hands-on activities built around the theme, Exploring Life Under the Sea. Literature and art projects enhance the theme, and students engage in creative and informational writing as a way to further their comprehension and communication abilities. Research and technology are woven into the instruction.
Parents may receive a free assessment in order to understand their child’s competencies in reading. Information will be gathered from parents about the child’s history and students will share information about their interests. A Critical Reading Inventory will be administered as well as an inventory to collect information about student’s thinking strategies. A post-program report will summarize the program, provide assessment results and offer learning suggestions for parents and teachers. More information is available on the application form.
